Tepping The Velvet – Musical

Tipping The Velvet” was my capstone project for my Master of Arts degree at OU, set in the Victorian era. At the onset of production, set designer Zach Snow incorporated numerous visual elements from Victorian-era theaters into the overall set design, including various hanging scenic pieces. In terms of lighting design, I aimed to recreate the Victorian theater style while integrating characteristics of musical theater, using different colors and stage materials to enhance the layering and emotional conveyance. Throughout the musical, the protagonist Nancy undergoes multiple emotional shifts, which are highlighted by contrasts in lighting intensity, color, and saturation. In the front system, I layered colors L203+R02 to create a painterly effect. Additionally, I employed footlights and extensive front lighting to differentiate levels.
